I just finished uploading the recordings from our last show to our Divino BetSatori YouTube Chanel. It’s always so great to reflect back on the show, and see things from the audience perspective. I always learn a ton from it.
Key Takeaways from the Night
The first thing I noticed was our stage presence. I recall having “bad hair day” thoughts as I headed to the gig, completely unaware of the slightly comical appearance of my quarter-zip jacket. Typically indifferent to such matters, I wasn’t thrilled with how it appeared on video. It is clearly something to work on, and probably an easy thing to fix. I remember writing about this all the way back in 2019 when I wrote “Divino BetSatori: Finding our Style”…. More and more often I find myself flirting with the idea of having the band color-matching to the colors of the Divino BetSatori logo, I think it would be a nice touch, specially if we accentuate it with a touch of face paint. =D
Regarding the sound, I really wish we had more time to sound check, we even started a few minutes past the hour. It always takes longer than I would like, and often we don’t get the right sound till way into the set. Having monitors would definitely help, it’s been tricky to find the right fit, specially when I think we need a completely new sound system anyways. The worst part was the multiple instances of feedback we got, it ended up being a setting on my guitar, but we didn’t realize until the end of the gig.
The band itself performed really well, especially considering this was our second time playing together, and the guys are just getting to learn the songs. You can tell in the video they are all looking at their notes. Once they play them by memory it’s going to sound incredible. Now the questions are, how to mix up to leading instrumentalists, working on the vocal harmonies, and building an elevated stage for Eko so the crowd can get a better view of his incredible skills.
When it comes to the songs, they still need some polishing, more differentiated transitions, and some extra work on the delivery of the vocals. Ideally every musician would know all their parts, when to come in, when to back off, and all the dynamic changes. That’s what we’ll be working on during rehearsal tonight.
Overall we got some huge wins tonight. The place was completely filled, with all chairs claimed, which was a bit of a concern for me going into it because I wanted to make a good number for Michael who kindly allowed us to perform as his place. Seems like he was happy with us, and invited us to return for another set in May! =D
One of my favorite songs from the night was Feeling Awesome, it really embodied the spirit of the night. You can find it below.
