Over the past few months, I’ve been contemplating deeply on what Divino BetSatori means. Now that I use the name to represent an intention, a value system and a group of people, it seems more important to have a clear definition. Six years ago, these words were nothing but a series of thoughts landing on my awareness.
The Definition of Bet
The first word I thought about was Bet. Bet refers to the second letter of the Hebrew language. It corresponds to the letter B from the Greek and Latin languages, and it is the first letter on my born-given name: Bruno Treves.
Despite being the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet, many scholars consider it the first letter. According to Jewish legend, I specially chose the letter Bet among the twenty-two letters in Hebrew by God as the first letter of Torah as it begins with “Bereshit” (In the beginning). Bet means “the beginning” and it also means “home”. It ties me back to my Jewish heritage and my blood family, symbolized by the name my parents gave me when I was born.
The Definition of Satori
The second word in my head was Satori. This is the Japanese word for “awakening” or “sudden enlightenment”, another translation can be “moment of sudden realization”. Satori also contains within it the word Sat, which is Sanskrit for “truth”. Satori also contains the word Tori, which I relate to torus fields. Torus fields are fascinating and full of potential. Many scientists think these systems form the most basic structures in the universe. The “tori”, or “torus” also reminds me of Taurus, the bull, my sun sign in western astrology.
Satori ties me to the Japanese culture, responsible for my early education on how to become Super Sayan, proceeded by an obsession with all things Japanese during my first years in college. I may never have a past life experience. If I had to guess, last time I was here, I was either Japanese born or spent a good chunk of meaningful time there.
The Definition of Divino
The third and final word was Divino. This is Spanish and Italian for “divine”. As an Argentinean born with Italian heritage, it seemed appropriate to include this word in the trifecta. Different people consider different things to be divine, you know, different religions, different Gods, different approaches to spirituality. For me, Divino simply means “from God”, “Godlike”, “spiritual” and “holly”. We can separate Divino into Divi + No, meaning “no division”. In the human realm, we use Divino to refer to something or someone who is lovely, beautiful, delightful, appealing, enchanting and/or perfect.
I like seeing everything and everyone as equal parts of the divine. Everything comes from God, everything is divine. The mind, judgments, eating from the tree of knowledge between good an evil, creates a split. We are kicked out of the garden and thrown off from heaven. Remembering our unity is the path back to heaven and the garden of oneness.
Being divine is not the same as being the ultimate One, my favorite explanation of these phenomenon goes like this: We are the same as God in quality but not the same in quantity.
Divino BetSatori Meaning, Simplified
Divino BetSatori is a multi-lingual name and by its own nature, it has multiple definitions. I’ve thought about dozens over the years. The first meaning of Divino BetSatori was “the divine beginning of enlightenment”. Other definitions included “Divine awareness without division”, and simply “divine enlightenment”. This was back when I thought Divino BetSatori would become my spiritual name, the name I would take on as I dropped Bruno Treves.
Luckily, I passed on that opportunity and instead made Divino BetSatori the stage name for my band. Nowadays the most accurate meaning of Divino Betsatori is “We bet on our divinity”. This means we bet on our divinity and it also means we bet on your divinity. We bet in the divine inside all of us. In a way, Divino BetSatori is considered a synonym for “Namaste”. The light in me honors the light in you. It’s a celebration of life, acknowledging that all of us are in this together. One tribe, one love, one universe, one song.
In this way, Divino BetSatori becomes more than a name and turns into an action. To bet on our divinity is to bet in the intrinsic goodness of everything and everyone in the world. It means to trust all that is, to accept it and maybe even welcome it.
To be on our divinity is to use our energy, time, money, actions, and awareness based on the premise that everything is divine. We are all part of a single, universal entity. Divino BetSatori is the realization of this connection and invites us to behave accordingly, guided by the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Betting on our Future
My vision is for Divino BetSatori to become a community project, a family and organization. Something like a blend between the Grateful Dead and Wookiefoot’s non-profit organization. My intention is for the band and the music to bring people together. To support them in feeling good, having fun, believing in themselves, the divine, each other. I want the music to promote a sense of oneness, community, and hope.
I see this project growing, organically, as it has since the beginning. Starting with a few words, popping into our awareness, bringing waves of meaning and focusing on their importance, taking what we need from them and sharing them with the world. My expectations are low and my excitement is through the roof. If you only knew how much pleasure I’ve derived from writing a dozen songs and sharing them with a few hundred people… It’s wild to image how much more we can create if we keep growing. For this, we don’t need that much: Time and space are gracefully given, band members will come and go (including yours truly), and as long as there is someone eager to listen, there will be someone eager to play.
Go spray some love.
