Today’s recording session was focused on the vocal parts for the first songs in the album. I came prepared with a mini “portable altar” and a yoga mat to sit on in the booth. A candle, some sage and a few figurines kept me company as I drew light through my throat and into the mic.
Attention to detail has been a constant as Tierro Lee and I continue to put this project together. So far we are coming up with some sweet material and in a sense, it feels like we are just getting started. At the same time, I get the sense that the project is almost finished and before long I will be looking back at “the time when I was recording the album”.
There is obviously a lot more work to do. We still have to throw in the lead guitar, percussion, bass, and violin.
The truth is, we have no idea how much longer it will take to finish the album. So far, it’s taking longer than I thought, but I am learning a ton in the process and every session with Tierro is totally worth it.
At this point we already know we are going way over budget with the production costs, but I know I rather spend more money for the results I want, than lower the costs and end up with something I ain’t stoked about. My dreams are worth every penny.
At this point, it’s just a matter of commitment. I got to keep showing up, to the best of my abilities, bringing all I can to every session and trusting that we are on the right path. No one knows the impact this project will have in the world, every song has the potential to change someone’s life. The whole album might go unheard by the masses, or it might turn into a platinum record and sell millions of copies.
Chances are we’ll see it fall somewhere in between those two extremes. At the end of the day, the least I can ask is for me to be stoked about it, to be proud of my work and satisfied with the end result. The rest is up to the universe.
